Target man Matt Smith was sent off on seventeen minutes into his debut at Reading and struggled to find regular game time throughout his time at Craven Cottage. He did briefly reprise his profitable Leeds striking partnership with Ross McCormack, but had to go out on loan to Bristol City to find first team-football once Moussa Dembele had broken into the senior squad. Smith scored nine goals in 53 Fulham appearances before joining Queens Park Rangers on transfer deadline day in January 2017.
