Michael Madl is delighted with how his switch to Fulham has worked out – and is now concentrating on lifting the Londoners in the Championship promotion race.

The Austrian centre back enjoyed a successful loan from Sturm Graz after moving to Craven Cottage in January and has since made the permanent move to west London. Madl revealed that he consulted compatriots Konstantin Kerschbaumer, who plays in defence for Brentford, and Marco Djuricin, who also had a spell at Griffin Park, before agreeing to make the move to England.

“I spoke to a few Austrian players who played here, like Kerschbaumer and Marco Djuricin, and they knew a lot about the Championship; to see it though is different.”

Madl is happy to be back in Slavisa Jokanovic’s first team as the busy festive period looms but admits that competition for places in the Fulham defence is fierce.

“It’s a question for the manager; we’re four good centre backs. Everyone wants to play, of course. If you get the chance you have to take it. I’m sorry for Tomas [Kalas], but happy to be back in the squad.”
