Tomas Kalas feels Fulham have a better squad than the one he got promoted with at Middlesbrough last year – and believes his new side should be aiming to reach the Premier League themselves.

The Czech centre half urged his team-mates to shrug off the disappointment of Saturday’s home defeat by Birmingham City as they prepare to tackle Burton Albion at Craven Cottage tomorrow night. Kalas feels that Fulham’s creative strength – and the summer signings recruited by head coach Slavisa Jokanovic – give the squad the right balance to be challenging at the top end of the table.

I think we’ve got an even stronger squad than Middlesbrough had. We’ve got many offensive players [and] we play very well in a shape defensively.

I don’t want to say that Middlesbrough had bad players, obviously, they had really good players, that’s why they got promoted. [At Fulham] If you see the names, the quality, I think we should chase promotion. That’s the aim.

Kalas also hinted that he might be looking to move on from Stamford Bridge on a permanent basis come the end of the season and that he is enjoying his time on loan at Fulham so far.

I have had many years to play for Chelsea – I haven’t played. I don’t want to say that I don’t want to play for them – that’s why I joined Chelsea, with the future that I might be one of the players that could play for them.

I’m trying to find a way to develop and improve myself. I came to Fulham with the vision that I may play as many games as I can and hopefully improve myself this way – it’s the quickest way to improve.
