Slavisa Jokanovic admits Fulham have gone backwards since their outstanding start to the season and admitted that his nine summer signings might need more time to gel after the horrendous 4-0 defeat to Bristol City this afternoon.

The Serbian head coach decried a lack of character and belief after the Whites went behind to Tammy Abraham’s tenth minute opener and allowed the visitors to cruise to the three points following three second half strikes.

We didn’t have enough quality, enough character today. We are not solid like in the beginning of the season. We shot 15 times, but only two times we shot on the goal [on target]. Generally in the last four games, we didn’t find the end product.

Generally we play around well, but in our box we are not solid enough and in the opposite box we don’t find the end product. All of us, and myself first, have to make one step back, because we started the season a little bit different way. We were more compact, more solid, more aggressive.

With new people we try to find more quality and dominated at the beginning [of the season], but it’s true we didn’t find solutions – especially after the international break. At the moment, we didn’t adapt ourselves to the new faces [in the squad]. We must make an improvement and see what technically is the best option for us.

I have to give these new players some time to adapt and understand what we want to do and what we were doing in pre-season and at the start of the season.
