Ragnar Sigurdsson says he is ‘very happy and relieved’ to have completed his move to Fulham and is looking forward to starting his career with the club.

In an interview with Fulham’s official website, the Icelandic central defender said he was delighted to have received interest from Fulham after a successful Euro 2016, where he scored against England in the second round. Sigurdsson said he had known about the club from watching their previous Premier League matches and after a few discussions at Motspur Park, it appears the decision was a straightforward one.

I am just very happy and relieved that the deal is done. I played a good tournament in the European Championships and got some clubs asking about me, but in the end it is was Fulham that was the choice – and I’m very happy about that.

Obviously, I’ve seen Fulham on TV many times when they were in the Premier League before and it’s a good club and it is London, it has everything. I have met some nice people here also and it looks very good. The people that I met here all seem very nice, the atmosphere seems relaxed and good and very professional. I have good feelings.

I’ve always wanted to play in England and I’ve always said that. I think this is a perfect place for me to start in England and show what I can do. I don’t know if I will play [against Blackburn] or be on the bench or in the stands, right now I know nothing. I’m just happy to be here and ready to play whenever. In a club like this you have to fight for your place, so I hope we can compete with each other and the best players will play, of course, like everywhere.
