Shrewsbury Town have raided Fulham for the return of Jack Grimmer and the extension of Larnell Cole’s loan.
Right back Grimmer, 21, has returned to Town after signing on loan from Fulham until the end of the season.
The Scottish right-back played six games for Town early last season and impressed.
After returning to Fulham, he picked up an injury and has only played once since, in a Capital One Cup tie at Wycombe in August.
Boss Micky Mellon said: “I keep stressing the need to get League One-ready players and Jack is a Championship player with pace, power and no end of ability.
“He’s well known to the fans and I’m sure they’ll be happy to see Jack coming in. We need to get that type of player in.
“The opportunity to get in Jack in is one we’ve worked hard on to make happen and we’re grateful to to get Jack and Larnell from Fulham.”
Mellon has identified the need for more pace throughout his team and sees Grimmer fitting the bill.
The Town boss said: “I want my full backs to get forward and quickly go and support the wide players. Jack has all the attributes to do that but he’s also a very good player who can play a number of positions.
“He’s full of power and pace and we’ve seen the importance of that in this division – to make any impact it’s a must. We need to get as much of that in the team as possible.
“It will give us an exciting team that plays with the power and pace needed to get positive results.”
Grimmer is eligible for Sunday’s FA Cup third round tie at Cardiff. Mellon is also delighted to have secured Cole for the rest of the campaign after the youngster impressed in his 19 games, scoring twice.
The Town chief said: “I’m delighted we’ve been able to keep him until the end of the season and I’m sure everyone will be pleased about that.
