Sheffield United are mulling over a third bid for Fulham defender Dan Burn as the Blades look for January transfer window additions.

Nigel Adkins has told sources in Yorkshire he wants to recruit in defensive and attacking areas this winter.

United sit just outside the League One play-off places and believe the capture of £1million-rated Burn can give them the edge in the race for promotion to the second tier of English football.

Adkins is a known admirer of the towering centre-half and saw two bids knocked back for the player in the summer as a couple of hitches held up the deal.

It is understood that the Whites were willing to do business but only on the condition that a replacement was acquired first, with former manager Kit Symons pulling the plug.

Burn is entering the final few months of his contract in west London and has been in and out of the starting XI at Craven Cottage.

New boss Slavisa Jokanovic has restored him to the fold for the last few fixtures but the Blades are monitoring the situation to see if the Serbian decides to look at other options at the back.

United would launch their ambitious third attempt to snare the giant defender should the Serbian make changes to his plans.
