On-loan Fulham goalkeeper Jesse Joronen scored a bizarre goal for Stevenage on Saturday, finding the net with a long punt up field from just outside his own box.

The Fulham youngster was simply clearing the ball but the bounce was completely misjudged by opposite number Matt Ingram and went in to put his current side ahead.

Joronen revealed it was not the first time he had scored a goal after giving Stevenage the lead in their 2-1 win against Wycombe Wanderers today. The goalkeeper, who had just returned from representing his native Finland in their final European Championship qualifiers, scored after ten minutes when his long kick deceived Chairboys custodian Matt Ingram.

When asked if he had scored before, Joronen said: “One – plus that. That was back in Finland. I have to say I didn’t mean it to go that far. I was expecting the other keeper to catch it. “It was a little bit difficult when the wind is blowing like that. Afterwards I said to the Wycombe keeper ‘unlucky’ mate. It was not completely intentional but I’ll take it.”
