Middlesbrough head coach Aitor Karanka has given the green light for Boro defender James Husband to extend his loan spell at Fulham.

The defender’s one-month stay at Craven Cottage ended after the Londoners’ 4-0 win over QPR on Friday evening, and the 22-year-old has impressed during his second loan stint in the capital.

The left-back, who Boro signed from Doncaster Rovers last summer, has found first-team opportunities on Teesside limited over the last 12 months, largely due to the form of George Friend.

And Karanka has given his permission for Husband to extend his stay at Fulham – believing he has adequate cover in that position in Friend and Fernando Amorebieta.

When asked if he expects a deal to be agreed with Fulham , Karanka said: “I think so because we don’t have problems (in that position) at the moment.

“He’s another player who has a good future but I can’t guarantee him games.

“It’s better for him to be playing, but it’s also important to us that he’s playing for his development.”
