Dan Burn is poised to remain with Fulham beyond the transfer window, after the Whites abandoned plans to bring in another centre back following the successful acquisitions of Tim Ream and Richard Stearman in recent days.

Sky Sports understands that Kit Symons’ decision to end his chase for defensive reinforcements effectively dooms Sheffield United’s determined pursuit of Burn, which had been hotly tipped to finish successfully overnight. The Blades had an initial bid rejected by Fulham, who felt the offer fell well below their valuation of the 6ft 7in defender, and were preparing to return with a second offer.

The 22 year-old, who has been in and out of the Fulham starting line-up during the early weeks of the season, will remain at Craven Cottage and must try and force his way back into Symons’ long-term plans.
