American defender Tim Ream overcome an iffy start to his Fulham career to become a genuine fans’ favourite at Craven Cottage. The centre back had to convince Slavisa Jokanovic that he could fit into the Serbian’s future plans at Fulham when he looked set to be released at the end of the 2015/2016 campaign, but Ream’s rebirth as a dependable ball-playing centre half made him a pivotal part of three promotion winning sides.

Many had thought Ream’s remarkable displays at the heart of Marco Silva’s title-winning 2021-22 team served as a swansong, but the popular defender was rewarded with a new contract and immediately set about proving that wasn’t as a result of any sentiment. The long-serving centre half has been Fulham’s most consistent defender as the Whites attacked the Premier League with style and went to his first World Cup with the United States this winter – playing every minute at the age of 35 as Gregg Berhalter’s side reached the second round.
