Fulham skipper Scott Parker has undergone ankle surgery to solve a problem that had been dogging him towards the end of last season and hopes to be able to return to a full part in the club’s pre-season preparations soon.

The 34 year-old midfielder was discomforted by ankle problems after being substituted against Derby in February but, despite missing a few matches, continued to play through the pain. He has now had some floating bone removed from his ankle and is hoping to be able to travel to Portugal in July for Fulham’s summer training camp.

He told the club’s official website:

I was struggling a little bit at the back end of last season and missing a few games here and there. I just felt I didn’t want to take the problem into the new season. It wasn’t a drastic procedure, I just had a couple of bits of bone removed.

It all went well and now I’m looking forward to the start of the season. I’m not going to be far off it.
