Hertha Berlin have announced that they will face Fulham in a pre-season friendly in Austria on July 22nd.
Fulham had already confirmed that they would hold a second training camp in Styria from July 20th to July 26th after their first summer tour to Portugal, which culminates in a training game against Aston Villa. The Whites are hoping to pencil in a second fixture in Austria, but the game against the Bundesliga side, who narrowly avoided the drop last season, in the small former mining town of Schladming.
Fulham’s only previous meetings with Hertha Berlin came when the Whites reached the third round of the UEFA Cup in 2002/03. Hertha won the first leg 2-1 in Berlin, with Steve Marlet scoring the Fulham goal. The German side secured their progress into the next round with a goalless draw at Loftus Road in the return leg thanks to a fine goalkeeping performance from a certain Gabor Kiraly.
Hi Dan. Funnily enough, those were not our only previous meetings. Recently on TIFF, Coulio posted a graphic for a 1967 pre-season tournament in Berlin featuring ourselves, Hertha, another local club, and Dinamo Zagreb. And — how weird — the team we defeated in the round before losing to Hertha in 2002 were the self-same Dinamo.
