Fulham will have to do without Danny Guthrie for their crunch clash with Wigan Athletic this evening.

The on-loan Reading midfielder picked up a calf problem in the 1-1 draw at Charlton on Tuesday night and will no play part in a clash that will have a huge bearing on the Championship drop zone.

Kit Symons took his squad to Craven Cottage on Thursday for training, with full-backs Jazz Richards and Jack Grimmer returning to the fold for the first time in a week after injury.

However, the manager admitted he’s inclined to leave Tim Hoogland holding down the slot, and save Richards for the second crucial game inside five days against Rotherham on Wednesday.

He said: “There were a few tired bodies on Tuesday but everyone came through OK. We’re looking quite strong.

“Jazz and Jack both trained, but I’m mindful of the time Jazz has been out, and we’ll wait and assess him.

“I’m also mindful of the magnitude of the game against Wigan, but we’ve got another next Wednesday.

Players’ welfare comes first, and there’s an element of risk you can take, but the player always comes first.”
