Fulham will offer Marcus Bettinelli a new contract as they look to ward off interest from Chelsea.

Jose Mourinho watched the Whites keeper in action two weeks ago and is reportedly looking to sign him as back up for Thibaut Courtois with current No.2 Petr Cech tipped to leave in the summer.

Bettinelli, 22, is firmly established as the first-choice at Craven Cottage and he has been one of the few highlights in a disappointing campaign for Fulham.

The England Under-21 international has just one-year left on his current contract but he has already held talks with boss Kit Symons about committing his future to the club.

When asked about securing a new deal for Bettinelli, Symons said: “I’ve had a chat with Marcus about that already. I’d certainly be looking to do that and the club would too. He’s a bright young goalkeeper and I’m not surprised he’s being linked with other people.

“Marcus has done really well for us this season, I’d say better than I’m sure he expected at the start of the season. I’ve been delighted with his progress. He’s at the right place to continue his development and he’s learning all the time.

“He’s made mistakes, as we all have this season, but he’s learnt from them as well and he’s the type of character who wants to learn. He knows he’s got a lot to do still but I’m very optimistic, as I’m sure he is, that he will learn, he will develop and he will keep continuing to get better and better. I’m really excited to oversee that development and see him get better and better for Fulham.”
