Fulham striker Marcello Trotta has handed in a transfer request as he looks to leave Craven Cottage.

The Italian U21 international scored 13 goals in 40 games during a successful season-long loan spell with Brentford as they won promotion to the Championship. Bees boss Mark Warburton wants to sign Trotta on a permanent basis, but the 21-year-old still has another 12 months remaining on his contract with the Whites.

Cottagers chief Felix Magath has promised an injection of youth into his squad next season following relegation from the Premier League. Trotta is unsure whether he figures in the German manager’s plans, but has been ordered to report back to pre-season training with the rest of the squad.

However, the former Napoli youngster has told Fulham chiefs he wants to quit SW6, with a number of clubs monitoring his situation closely.
