German international Sascha Riether signed for Fulham from Wolfsburg – initially on loan – in July 2012. He enjoyed an outstanding first season at Craven Cottage, making 39 appearances and scoring a goal as well as being voted as the club’s player of the season by his team-mates, ahead of Dimitar Berbatov. Riether struggled in his second season – after making a permanent move to SW6 – eventually losing his place in the side as Fulham were relegated from the Premier League. The likeable defender moved back to his homeland to join Freiburg in June 2014.
