Motherwell defender Shaun Hutchinson has signed for Fulham on a free transfer.

The 6ft 2in centre back moves south after spending seven years with the Steelman and making more than 140 senior appearances since his arrival from the famous Wallsend Boys Club, including playing in the Champions’ League and the Europa League. Hutchinson starred in the 2012/2013 season, which saw Motherwell finish second, and was named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year.

The 23 year-old turned down Motherwell’s offer of a new contract in order to move south, deciding on Fulham over interest from Rangers and Wolves. He said: “It was a difficult decision to leave Motherwell and I had to really think hard about it. It has been a fantastic apprenticeship for me and I am very appreciative of what everyone at the club has done. The fans have also been brilliant and I want to personally thank them for their support. However, this is a great opportunity at Fulham and I can’t wait to get started.”
