John Arne Riise has taken a final parting shot at a section of Fulham supporters after it was announced he would be leaving the club on Friday.

The 33-year-old, who arrived at Craven Cottage in 2011, has been released after the Cottagers’ dropped to England’s second tier.

Damien Duff, Steve Sidwell, Giorgos Karagounis and Jonny Heitinga have also been let go following relegation from the Premier League.

In the wake of the news, Riise took to Facebook to thank the ‘true Fulham supporters’ who had stuck by him throughout, before lashing out at a pocket of fans he branded ‘haters’.

“Good luck, the team needs support , not people thinking they know everything,” he wrote.

“And if you knew what went on behind the scenes you might have kept your mouths shut!

“Your shit comments really don’t affect me, all I cared about was the club and the true fans who has supported FFC all their life and through generations.”
