Malian midfielder Mahamadou Diarra was a shrewd out-of-capture capture for Fulham in February 2012 having been without a club after being released by Monaco. The former Real Madrid man made an immediate impression, creating a goal on his debut after coming off the bench in a 5-0 thumping of Wolverhampton Wanderers in March 2012. Diarra scored his only goal for the Whites at Bolton the following month and, although his quality was never in doubt, he struggled for fitness throughout his time at Craven Cottage. He made just 23 appearances, despite being rejoining the club in an attempt to avoid relegation, but became something of a cult hero amongst the Fulham faithful in any case.
