Fulham tried to conclude a deadline day signing of Monaco defender Nicolas Isimat-Mirin.

Manager Rene Meulensteen wanted to complete the deal to bring Isimat-Mirin to Craven Cottage before the deadline according to reports in France.

The 22-year-old, who was previously a target for Newcastle, is rated highly by Monaco boss Claudio Ranieri and is not one of the players the Italian is willing to let leave the Stade Louis II.

However Meulensteen hoped his decision to allow Dimitar Berbatov to join the big spending French club would act as a sweetener for a deal with Isimat-Mirin.
