Sascha Riether admits he is astonished at the maturity shown by Dan Burn and believes Fulham are on track to get out of the relegation mire.

Burn’s impressive displays against Norwich City in the FA Cup earned the 21-year-old a Premier League debut at Arsenal last weekend and the youngster’s calmness amazed his experienced fellow defender.

Riether said: “If you see him playing, it’s like he has played 250 games. It’s unbelievable. He’s doing a very good job and I hope he continues like that.

“He is a confident player and he shows it in training too. And it’s not only that he’s a good player. He’s talking a lot on the pitch with everyone, and for a young man, it’s really impressive.”

Burn’s display, coinciding with the welcome return of Brede Hangeland to the heart of the defence after a lengthy spell out injured, have convinced the German that the Whites can get out of trouble.

“I think if we continue playing like we did at Arsenal, we won’t lose many games, because it was a very good performance against the first in the Premier League,” he said.

“Always when you are in such a position in the table, it’s important that you have a clean sheet or you have a good defence. We have very good players who can always score goals, we know that, so our focus is on the defence at the moment.”
