Fulham manager Rene Meulensteen has admitted that contract talks for his players are not a priority as he concentrates on Fulham’s fight for survival.
Aaron Hughes, 34, has a deal at Craven Cottage which expires at the end of the season, while fellow defender Philippe Senderos will also be out of contract in the summer and is reportedly attracting interest from other clubs.
However, new boss Meulensteen does not want to think about their long-term futures at the current time as he is only concerned about the club’s Premier League plight.
“We have a big battle on our hands so that’s not one of our priorities,” Meulensteen said.
Fulham are second from bottom in the league after losing 4-1 to Everton on Saturday, but Meulensteen believes there were plenty of lessons to be learned from the Goodison Park game.
He said: “The first half we just didn’t get going but we had some words at half-time and I thought we were brilliant for 25 minutes after the break.
“We were positive, we pressed them. A couple of our lads had chances and we improved.
“I think Everton are bursting with confidence after recent results and they took their chances.
“We can do better and we will learn from this. We will certainly continue to work hard.”
