Sascha Riether has extended his Fulham contract by another two years – with an option for another year – that could see the German defender stay at Craven Cottage until 2016.

Riether joined Fulham on a permanent basis this summer after completing a £1.3m move from Cologne following an impressive loan spell at Craven Cottage in which he established himself as the club’s first-choice right back. He made 39 appearances in his first season in England and scored his first Fulham goal in the 2-2 draw at Sunderland in March. Fulham fought off prolonged interest from Schalke during the summer to secure Riether’s signature and the fans’ favourite was delighted to extend his contract, telling the official website:

I’m happy to have got the deal done. I like it here – I love Fulham, I love the fans, I love the club, and I’m happy that we could close this deal now. It’s the start of the season and we are well prepared so I’m looking forward to the future.
