Fulham boss Martin Jol wants to make an offer for Darren Bent this week in order to beat Newcastle to the England striker’s signature, according to the Sunday People.

Jol discussed his summer strategy during his first meeting with new Fulham owner Shahid Khan this week and was promised significant resources for transfers by the American tycoon. Jol left reassured that Fulham would be able to match Aston Villa’s £5m valuation for Bent, who has fallen out of favour under Paul Lambert.

The Dutch coach has made the recruitment of a new frontman his main priority and has been tracking Bent’s availability since he first took over at Craven Cottage. Jol worked with Bent during his time in charge at Tottenham and is keen to move quickly with Alan Pardew eager to take the former Charlton forward back to the north east.
