Fulham will announce the signing of Venezuelan centre back Fernando Amorebieta from Athletic Bilbao next week.

The Whites have concluded a deal to sign the combative defender on a free transfer after he decided to end an eight year spell with the Lions. Amorebieta will become Fulham’s second signing of the summer after the Whites turned Sascha Riether’s loan spell from Cologne into a permanent deal last week.

Jol is also ready to radically revamp his squad with ten first-team players out of contract at the end of the season. Chris Baird appears destined to leave Craven Cottage and Mark Schwarzer has turned down Fulham’s offer of a new deal. The Dutch head coach admits he is hoping to make several signings this summer.

“It is not easy. We have to pay a lot of money for these players. Of course if you have got players on loan you won’t generate a lot of money. They go back, you don’t get any money for them. We have to be creative again but from the names you named, there is already one on the board. But I will talk to the press next weekend and we will confirm everything.”
