Today’s People carries a piece suggesting that Manchester United are hot on the trail of Fulham midfielder Moussa Dembele.

The Belgian has been a revelation since being switched to a central midfield role by Martin Jol in the middle of the season and Fulham are desperate to hang onto the 24 year-old, whose contract expires at the end of next season. Tottenham have seen two bids of around £10m rejected in the past for Dembele, but Sir Alex Ferguson would probably be willing to exceed that figure if he sees the former AZ Alkmaar player as the man to add guile to the Old Trafford midfield.

Dembele, asked by the People about his future last week, said the following:

I’m not concerned about losing time here, but it’s clear that I’d like to play at a higher level. Spurs were interested but I can’t talk about other clubs. I’m ambitious and would like to play for a club in the top five.

It’s hard to say what is stopping Fulham from progressing. We have good players and I feel we’re better than all the clubs except for the Big Four, and Manchester City. But each season we change our coach which makes it difficult.
