Fulham have confirmed that their first team coach Billy McKinlay will become assistant manager to new Northern Ireland boss Michael Hughes on a part-time basis.

McKinlay, who handed over his reserve team role to Ray Lewington last week, has been on the staff at Fulham since ending his playing career in 2005 and will team with O’Neill, a longstanding friend, for the first time before the friendly against Norway at the end of the month.

I am honoured to accept the Assistant Manager’s position with Northern Ireland. I have known Michael O’Neill for over 20 years since our days at Dundee United together and it will be great to work alongside him.

I am excited by this opportunity to work with the squad as there are a lot of talented players from Northern Ireland and I am looking forward to our first game against Norway.
