David Stockdale was pleased with Fulham’s professionalism after they saw off a spirited challenge from Charlton to reach the FA Cup fourth round yesterday afternoon.

The final 4-0 scoreline certainly flattered the Premier League side, with Stockdale called on to make three outstanding saves as the League One leaders pushed for an equaliser early in the second half. The 26 year-old was relieved that Fulham weren’t left with egg on their faces after a tricky third round tie.

There’s always a bit of FA Cup fever when lower league clubs come to higher division grounds and try to cause an upset, so we were happy that wasn’t the case today. That’s what you need to do. At home as a Premier League club you need to set out your stall and prove why you’re a Premier League club. You need to set out your intentions and go at them early, and that’s what we did.

Yeah, they threatened a couple of times. They are a good side and it was easy to forget that they are in League One. But they’re top of their league and they’ve only lost a couple of times in 20 odd games so they weren’t to be taken lightly.

In the first-half we didn’t have our normal tempo. We were finding we had more space than usual to pass so that’s what we were doing, maybe without penetrating enough.

But we want to be in the final come May. I’m not saying we’ll get there, but that’s definitely our aim and this was a good start. It’s another momentum builder on top of what was already a good start to the year.

Even if we’d lost today, which we didn’t, I think we could still be confident going to Blackburn next week because of the type of team we are and the manager we have.
