Bryan Ruiz enjoyed his first taste of the FA Cup as Fulham eased into the fourth round with a 4-0 win over Charlton Athletic.
The Costa Rican winger was pleased with his personal performance that included an assist for Clint Dempsey’s second and winning the penalty that allowed the American midfielder to complete his hat-trick. Ruiz was delighted to make an impression in the famous competition and admitted that Charlton made it difficult for Fulham:
It was very nice to play my first match [in the FA Cup] especially because we won. It was a hard match. Charlton also played very well but it was good that we scored first and could control the game.
I’m very happy with my play. I assisted Clint and won a penalty and I’m fit and I’m enjoying playing here. It was a very good match to win and to score four goals is very good for our confidence. We’re entering the second part of the season and with these four matches in a row that we haven’t lost we can get a lot of confidence for the rest of the season.
Ruiz now turns his attention to next weekend’s trip to Blackburn and he is especially motivated to turn in a good performance at Ewood Park after his disappointing debut against Rovers earlier in the season.
I’m especially looking forward to it as it [his debut] wasn’t my best match. I hope we can win because it is very important for ourselves. To play away will be a very tough match and we will prepare ourselves this week to make sure we’re ready.
