Ben Hamer will be suspended for Charlton’s trip to Fulham in the FA Cup on Saturday after the Football Association upheld his red card against Leyton Orient on New Year’s Eve.

The goalkeeper was sent off by referee Dean Whitestone for handling outside his penalty area as the Addicks were beaten for the first time in ten games. You can see here the incident here. The FA ruled there was insufficient evidence to indicate that the decision was ‘clear and obvious error’ by the referee – the only grounds on which the red card could be rescinded – that means Hamer will serve his one-match ban this weekend.

John Sullivan is now likely to face Fulham in the third round tie at Craven Cottage on Saturday.
