Wycombe manager Gary Waddock described Marcello Trotta as ‘a goalscoring machine’ after the Italian striker’s fine hat-trick saw off Exeter City yesterday afternoon.

The Fulham loanee, who recently agreed to extend his loan spell at Adams Park by another month, took his tally to six goals in only four appearances for the Chairboys with all three goals against the Grecians. The 19 year-old’s treble helped left Wycombe out of the League 1 relegation zone and Waddock was full of praise for the teenager.

Marcello is a goalscoring machine – he’s done it in Fulham’s reserves and he just comes alive inside the box. He’s so confident in front of goal – he could have had a hat-trick at Carlisle and he could have had more.

As soon as it goes into the penalty area, he’s cool and a very good finisher. It’s fantastic for him for his family to come over to see him for Christmas and for him to score a hat-trick in front of them is fairytale stuff.

I’m delighted for everybody, though obviously he’ll get the headlines because of his goals. But there were performances all over the field that I thought were outstanding and it’s a very good result for us.

We were all disappointed we didn’t win up at Carlisle, which shows you how far we’ve come, but we needed to back that up and we’ve done that.
