Fulham have today recalled David Stockdale from his loan spell at Ipswich as Mark Schwarzer has been diagnosed with a neck injury sustained during the defeat by Swansea on Saturday.

The Australian international is expected to be out for between four to six weeks with a compression injury to his thoracic spine and is expected to be in contention for a recall to the first team by the end of January. Whilst Stockdale has a 24-hour recall clause attached to his season-long loan at Ipswich and should replace Schwarzer for the visit of Bolton on Saturday, he is ineligible for the Europa League.

That means that Martin Jol will have a debutant in goal for this evening’s must win game against Odense. He will most likely hand Neil Etheridge, who has been on the bench for much of this season, his first senior start for the club instead of offering summer signing Csaba Somogyi a chance to impress in the absence of Schwarzer.
