Martin Jol says that Kerim Frei will be part of the new Fulham side he’s trying to build after the young winger took his chance to impress earlier in the season.

Jol has been delighted with the Swiss teenager’s progress since handing him a debut against Crusaders in the Europa League earlier in the summer and scored his first goal for the club against Odense earlier this month. Frei was far from overwhelmed when he started the League Cup against Chelsea in September and looked lively on his first league start at Stamford Bridge on Boxing Day. The 18 year-old is likely to keep his place in the starting line-up at Norwich this afternoon as Damien Duff is still sidelined with injury – and it’s not a prospect that will worry his manager.

He played well at Chelsea in the Carling Cup, so I knew that although he is young, he is very brave. He’s good when he is one against one. You want more out of him but he is a young player.

He is an exciting player and he will do the business for us in the future. He is a very good character.
