Bjorn Helge Riise is set to return to Fulham after a disappointing loan spell with Portsmouth.

The Norwegian midfielder, who had previously spoken enthusiastically about extending his stay on the south coast, only made two appearances for the Championship club and failed to feature after Steve Cotterill left Fratton Park. Caretaker-manager Guy Whittingham confirmed that Riise, 28, would be returning to Fulham this week in a press conference after Pompey’s win over Nottingham Forest on Saturday.

I think Bjorn’s going to be going back now. Both Stuart (Gray) and I have said to him we’re really grateful for what he did and sorry it didn’t work out, but he has been a great pro. I think he’s enjoyed his time down here and we’ve enjoyed having him.
