Martin Jol has sprung to the defence of under-fire referee Martin Atkinson ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Stoke.
The Fulham manager risked wrath of the FA after commenting on the official prior to the game – going against the official guidance issued to clubs – but defended the referee after he was criticised for sending off Jack Rodwell in the recent Merseyside derby. Some have expressed surprise that Atkinson wasn’t demoted after his error but Jol was not complaining:
He’s a good referee and he proved that. If you are in the Premier League your quality is high.
