Bobby Zamora knows he must improve in order to be in with a chance of making Fabio Capello’s Euro 2012 squad.

Capello has publicly stated that he will offer the Fulham striker an opportunity to impress in the forthcoming friendlies as Wayne Rooney will be suspended for each of England’s group matches in Poland and Ukraine. Zamora, who missed a glorious chance to beat Everton last week, made Fulham’s opening goal at Wigan on Saturday but believes he need to score more regularly to enhance his international case.

I certainly need to play a bit better than that to be anywhere near the squad. I did have an assist for the first goal, but I wasn’t happy with my performance.

I have to work hard to improve and I know I can do better. You can work as hard as you like and the first season I came here, I did the role Moussa did here, which is sitting, screening and running around like a nutter.

You don’t get any credit for that sort of work unless you get a goal, that’s what any striker is judged on.
