Martin Jol was proud of the way his second-string side came so close to upsetting Chelsea at Stamford Bridge last night.

A few months ago I didn’t think my second eleven could play like this against Chelsea but I had the feeling we could do well with this group of players and we did. When we played it out to our wing players we looked really dangerous and Kerim Frei had two or three good opportunities.

The Fulham manager thought Bryan Ruiz showed promise on his second start for the club, although he was unsure as to whether the Costa Rican’s crucial penalty had actually crossed the line.

Somebody was standing in front of me and then I saw him [Ruiz] go towards the goalkeeper and I knew that he’d missed. However in the first half and start of the second half he was very good. Chelsea are a top team and his performance was a real positive.

Jol will welcome back his first-teamers for the trip to West Brom this weekend as Fulham go in search of a first league win.

We’ve got players like Hangeland, Duff and Dempsey and possibly Aaron Hughes to come back this weekend for our game against West Brom. I feel that we should have won our home games so far this season and this league is about results so we try and win at West Brom on Saturday.
