Martin Jol says Bryan Ruiz will bounce back from his penalty miss that saw Fulham knocked out of the Carling Cup at Chelsea last night.

The £10.6m signing from FC Twente missed Fulham’s final penalty after a 0-0 draw at Stamford Bridge as the Whites went out 4-3 on penalties. It adds to a disappointing debut against Blackburn eleven days ago, which saw him substituted at half-time, but Jol believes the Costa Rican is improving as he becomes acclimatised to the English game.

Penalties are a lottery. He had an excellent game, especially in the first-half and a part of the second.

After that he looked a bit tired but the variation up front with [Moussa] Dembele and Ruiz worked well. He’s a confident player who needs to find his rhythm and cope with the English style. Chelsea are a top team so there’s positives for the future.
