Portsmouth have confirmed that Bjorn Helge Riise has joined them on loan until November.

The midfielder had seen his first-team opportunities limited at Fulham by competition for places and a groin injury. He had made just four appearances – all in the qualifying rounds of the Europa League – under Martin Jol this season.

Portsmouth manager Steve Cotterill is delighted with the deal:

He’s a central midfielder who can also play on the right side. He’s energetic, a good footballer and has played 31 times for his country.

He played on loan for Sheffield United against us last season and did very well. We’ve got several midweek games and we may need to shuffle the pack so he will help us out.
