Martin Jol has told a Dutch sports magazine that he could still sign the Ajax forward Mounir El Hamdaoui.

Fulham have been linked with a move for the Moroccan international ever since Jol replaced Mark Hughes at Craven Cottage this summer and the Dutchman told NU Sport:

It is not inconceivable that I get Mounir to Fulham.

Jol, who is actively searching for a striker to boost Fulham’s attacking options before the close of the transfer window, also defended El Hamdaoui, who he brought to Ajax from AZ Alkmaar, after criticism from his current manager Frank de Boer.

I think it’s all too bad with Mounir. It’s all perception. He remains impassive when he is jeered. Some call it the ‘I’m not interested’ look. Well, if anyone is crazy about football …

Jol also described the 27 year-old as ‘incredibly honest and incredibly direct’.
