Fulham defender Rafik Halliche admits the next year will make or break his Fulham career.

The former Benfica centre back made just a single substitute appearance last season under Mark Hughes and has yet to feature for new Fulham boss Martin Jol. But the Algerian international, signed on the back of his excellent performances at last year’s World Cup, is eager to impress the Dutchman and put an injury-ravaged first campaign at Craven Cottage behind him.

Halliche told the Fulham Chronicle: “It was very difficult last year. I had a lot of injuries and didn’t really adapt to English football. I wish he [Mark Hughes] gave me more chances. Now this is my season. I must step up and take my chance when I get it.”

“I think Aaron Hughes and Brede Hangeland are good players. But maybe the coach may change the team with the Europa League and hopefully I will get a chance to show what I can do.”
