Marseille have confirmed that their striker Andre-Pierre Gignac is overseas and negotiating with clubs over a potential transfer.

The BBC reported earlier that Marseille’s sporting director, Jose Anigo, had said Gignac was not leaving the club but this was contradicted by the club’s assistant manager Guy Stephan, who confirmed that the player had not trained with his team-mates this morning:

I understand he is abroad. There are negotiations currently ongoing, but we need all three parties [two clubs and player] to agree. Maybe it will or will not happen.

French media outlets, including L’Equipe, have reported in the last hour that Gignac is set to join Fulham on a one-year loan deal.
