Martin Jol has dismissed concerns that Bobby Zamora could miss Fulham’s Premier League opener against Aston Villa on Saturday after breaking his hand in Split.

Zamora was omitted from Fabio Capello’s England squad on account of his injury, but the striker’s broken hand didn’t prevent him from helping Fulham through to the play-off round of the Europa League last Thursday as the Whites recorded a 2-0 win over RNK Split. Jol looks set to ask Zamora to lead the line again this weekend:

It [Zamora’s hand] is good. It was a disappointment for him to drop out of the squad but Fabio Capello told me as well that he was restricted. He could see that he had a different view but that is all in the business.

Jol admits that while he’s happy with the squad at his disposal, he’s still keeping an eye out for potential additions.

I think we’ve got a good squad so hopefully we can do the same as what they did before and be in the top ten. We always like to strengthen the squad so we are looking.
