Sky Sports are carrying this report which suggests that Chris Baird is ‘facing an uncertain future’ at Fulham.

The article doesn’t offer any potential destinations for the Northern Ireland defender and notes that he was an unused substitute against Aston Villa on Saturday. Given that Baird offers cover for at least three positions, I would be very surprised if Martin Jol allows him to move on during this transfer window, even if Fulham are being linked with a couple of new right backs.

With our Europa League commitments to consider – especially if the Whites overcome Dnipro in the play-off round – Jol may wish to rotate the side and bring in Baird either at full back or in midfield. We can’t be certain that Saturday’s experiment with Aaron Hughes at full back will continue for the remainder of the season. If it doesn’t then Baird could be back as a regular right back.

After a difficult start, Baird is now highly regarded by the Craven Cottage faithful. He has made 119 appearances for Fulham since signing for just over £3m from Southampton in July 2007.
