Fulham defender Philippe Senderos reckons his recent appearance for Switzerland at Wembley has boosted his chances of impressing Martin Jol when Fulham players return to training next week.

The central defender was crocked for all but the last four matches in 2010-11 – but intends to hit the ground running when the team compete in the first Europa League game on Thursday, June 30.

“Playing for Switzerland was a great end to what was a tough season for me where I had no chance to show Fulham fans what I can do,” he said.

“To come back after the injury and end the campaign on a high note has left me with a great feeling going into the new season.”

Senderos added: “The most important thing for me next season is just to stay fit and to stay on form after the frustrating year I’ve had.

“There’s a lot to look forward to and I can’t wait to start playing in Europe again.

“I think as a club we should aim to do at least as well as last season.

“There’s no reason to limit our ambitions.”
