I had a long trek back from Wembley on Saturday to contemplate why Fabio Capello hadn’t thrown on Bobby Zamora as he tried to get three points against Switzerland. But our man doesn’t seem too down about it and is just happy to be in the England picture again:

To be honest, I’d ruled out any international involvement again this season after the long break because of my injury.

I’m just pleased to be back fully fit. That’s the main thing for me. I haven’t dwelt on what might have been for England. Getting fit again and back on the field was always the bigger picture for me. Being with England again is really special and a bonus.

Could I have made a difference? You never know do you. I’d like to think so, but in the end, although I wasn’t involved, it’s nice to be in the set up.

It’s obviously going to be difficult to break in to the starting line up. We’ve got some great strikers like Peter Crouch, who’s got a great record and wasn’t even on the bench. I’ve got to just keep working hard and keep doing what I’m doing and hopefully I’ll be involved in the squad again next season
