Ask any Fulham fan and they’ll tell you the biggest question mark over Mark Schwarzer this summer is whether he’ll be lining up at Craven Cottage come September. But it seems some Australians have a few choice words to say about Schwarzer’s living arrangements.

The Sydney Morning Herald reports the outrage of Australian authors and conservationists at the plans Schwarzer has submitted to demolish the non-listed parts of his property that was the childhood home of the renowned author Christina Stead. Schwarzer’s representatives insist that the plans properly respect the heritage of the site – and tempers are rising.

All this has nothing to do with Schwarzer’s position in Mark Hughes’ first-team or the potential of David Stockdale. But it’s an interesting colour piece for those who seek to portray footballers as philistines who know the value of nothing.
