Fulham’s Stephen Kelly played the full ninety minutes in Dublin tonight as the Republic of Ireland clinched the inaugural Nations Cup with a 1-0 win over Scotland.
The home side edged a tight game thanks to a glorious individual goal from Robbie Keane midway through the first half. The veteran striker, who ended the season on loan at relegated West Ham, was allowed to carry the ball from inside his own half to the edge of the Scottish penalty area before firing a low shot that trickled underneath a disappointed Allan McGregor.
The Scots finished the stronger, with Kenny Miller furious that he had been denied a late penalty, but couldn’t find an equaliser.
