The news that Fulham, have just pipped Blackpool to England’s extra European place prompted near jubilation amongst the fans. FRaced with reporting back early for duty rather than another few weeks on a beach somewhere, it’s nice that the players are just as a keen on another European adventure.
Steve Sidwell sounds as if he’s raring to go already:
Playing in Europe tests you and at any stage of your career it is a highlight. I’ve been fortunate enough to taste Champions League football when I was at Chelsea and also played in the Europa League at Aston Villa.
It’s a good competition and with the achievements the club made last season, I’m sure we will want to go far in it again. Coming back early doesn’t really help because the demands of the Premier League are very tough. To add the Europa League does take a toll on the squad. But if you get a bit of luck along the way it can be successful.
It’s no surprise to hear Bobby Zamora’s on the same page.
It is early. I suppose we will be treating some of the games as pre-season games but obviously they are competitive and we want to win. It is hard to get your head around those first couple of weeks but we will be trying our best.
We had a great cup run last year and we relished it, loved it, and we would love to achieve half of what we did last year. We are going to go and enjoy it and do as well as we can.
